The online desktop is just a tech trap to desktop environment resources in. And as you see with mozilla webrunner it doesnt even need backing of desktop environment developers and can practically be a sandbox of its own.

The only thing interesting about an online desktop is the fact that you might have access to your files from anywhere and any computer - which mostly would boil down to work computer/home computer. But even that is and can be solved at the moment through a variety of web based services. Does it really need gnome to get involved there just for the sake of throwing out press releases? Could gnome provide the infra-structure of .mac or box.net?

Imho it would just open a pandoras box, see the CDE example.

Haha, lawyer-ish. :). To clarify it a bit, I see OD as an initiative to innovate, if Foundation can help them with hardware or getting the people behind together for a work session, then I would agree with that 100%.
Same with any other initiative. And to be honest, my answer is quite simple because OD it's not among my main concerns if I get to the board, as you might note from my candidacy statement.

Good review, thanks for the comments.

fogman: I think you missed where I talked about technology change vs. online desktop. I don't want candidates to back the Online Desktop, I want them to follow a procedure of understanding new technology directions and backing the developers who are doing the work in that direction. You can be irritated, but I specifically stated that this is viewing the candidates from a single perspective and people should look at all angles. I took a single issue approach and I'd encourage you or others to do the same or do a multi-issue approach.

I think George Kraft is right! (Even i don't know him.)

I don't want an online desktop and i wouldn't even try to use it. It makes only sense for small devices with low memory footprint and fast (really fast) network access. (I'm not talking about online-services....)

Besides that, i don't think that pushing your opinion as an election proposal is quite right. The Board shouldn't decide if or if not the online desktop would be a leading technology. We (users, programmers, and so on), as the community are the ones, that choose the direction. And till now i don't see a majority for an online desktop nor an improvement in usability/memory consumption/execution performance by using an online desktop.

So, i'm a little irritated by putting this on pgo without discussing what these people have to say in other areas of interests. It looks to me that you would make your choice only by the means of an online desktop and trying to push the community in that direction.
Hopefully you could also point out the other areas of interests for the foundation elections.

Greetings,
